Wow! This has truly been a journey. As I reflect on my first ever game as a broadcaster I remember being extremely excited and anxious of what was ahead of me.
I had zero experience and the people who trusted me with the headset on a live broadcast seemed confident that I would do just fine because of my extensive playing experience. In my opinion that was not the case.
Granted I know the game of basketball like the back of my hand but the world of broadcasting was new. I was starting my basketball career over but on the media side of things. The thrill I felt was unreal, it still gives me the same feeling I had before the start of every game as an athlete.
Excited, anxious and ready to win. Winning as a broadcaster looks different and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love that this is only the beginning so feel free to enjoy the ride with me and #PutNIckiOnTV
So this is new. But I’m loving it! I’ve worked as a sideline reporter a few times but at a much smaller scale for a Division III school. Now being the first ever sideline reporter for Temple Men’s basketball team on ESPN+ is exciting.
This feels real and honestly I don’t think any moment from my career could have prepared me for this. I mean think about it, when am I ever standing alone court side with a microphone in hand, producer in my ear counting me down as I’m anxiously waiting to talk to a camera. When I said anxiously I really mean that.
As my first season is coming to an end I can honestly say I’ve grown! I literally love the thrill. It gives me the same feeling as when I was a player waiting for the referee to throw the ball up so I can win the tip. I want to always be winning no matter what.
